“A chain link fence is nothing more than a mental barrier.”
No fancy quotes from an esteemed theorist or writer this time. Just a very obvious statement from me that is not much more than a thought to most.
Hear me out.
In essence, a chain link fence isn’t much. Some wound together material structured as a barrier. Maybe it is tall, maybe it isn’t. That part doesn’t matter so much. It is something that can easily be scaled, traversed, jumped, insert your own fancy word. The point is that it doesn’t take much effort to get past. Outside of fences that have barbed wire and guards. That is an entirely different situation and you’re better than that. Hopefully.
Where was I?
Right. You’ve got this craft, goal, hobby. This thing you are in fervent pursuit of. Then resistance occurs. Your own big blobbed brain telling you why you shouldn’t do it. That you can’t do it. It will endlessly give you every reason under the sun for why this pursuit won't pan out.
Think of it as a chain link fence. It’s just some scrawny, fancy patterned mesh of material that doesn’t take too much effort to get past if you don’t think too hard on it. You can do it and you have to do it. Your soul depends on it. We are still talking about the metaphorical fence. Ok?
So, identify those fences in your brain. Jump them, cut’em down, dig a hole under them, who cares, just get on the other side of this thing and continue. Simply continue.
Cheers!
Nice read, a call-to-action for creative types. I also love the picture.
